I am very appreciative of the time taken to respond to my heartfelt concerns and I want to make it clear that I agree entirely with the Dean's approach to my question, including the position that the emphasis should be on the art, not it's secondary impact. However, anytime we evaluate the worthiness of an effort, we need to include all of its benefits and costs. For instance, one of the benefits of technology is that it allows us to hear beautiful music in our homes, as well an design faster cars. I mentioned STEM skills, as they seem to me to be one of the least expected, yet most quantifiable, of the many benefits of music training. Nevertheless, as my eyes well up with tears even thinking about "Un bel di vedremo," math and technology seem very far away. I would hope students would be introduced to serious music and would be able to experience this sort of moving passion as well. I, for one, will accept your challenge and get more involved in local school politics to try to rescue and resuscitate arts training.

Absolutely wonderful interview with the best raconteur to come along since David Raksin. Seriously flawed only by KUSC's inability to play the entire pieces. Too bad. You must resolve that issue, and soon.

Bravo, Kenneth Turan, for articulating the anger and incredulity so many of us in Los Angeles feel about LACMA's decision.

I'd like to subscribe to your podcast, but your choices don't include my podcaster software- named Juice, which works with Windows Media Player parameters). Could you send me the correct feed link, or a generic one for Windows Media Player.

Thanks...
